Key Features

Digital Target ID

One of the main complaints about the predecessors of ACE 400 is the lack of a digital ID. However, this unit comes with a 0-99 numeric ID on the Screen. The best thing about this target identification is that it helps you identify your target before digging it out. This will save you time and energy since you can dig out only what you are looking for. The target id lets you identify particular types of metals including silver, copper, iron, and gold. The main disadvantage that came with the segment approach is that it is too broad in metal identification. However, the 0-99 scale offers a more precise representation of your target.

Iron Audio

Another impressive feature that comes with this unit is the Iron Audio. This feature is designed to create a low grunting tone if it detects an iron target. Generally, things such as washers and bottle caps give a coin signal. However, it is very frustrating to spend a lot of time digging up the treasure only to realize that it was a bottle cap. The iron audio helps in double-checking the target before digging it up.

Cam Locks

Being an entry-level metal detector, the cam locks are a great bonus. Cam locks are simple plastic mechanisms designed to add more strength and stability to your detector. It goes without saying, adding more balance and strength goes a long way in boosting the efficiency of the metal detector.

Search Modes

Garrett ACE 400 comes with five search modes namely, coins, Relics, jewelry, and custom. These discrimination modes do a great job in helping detectorists search for different treasures. You can apply each of these modes by simply using the custom features. For instance, let’s say you want to hunt for coins, but you are only interested in silver coins only. Here you simply need to start the coin mode and notch out nickel, zinc, and copper segments. This means if you are searching in a park, the chances are that you don’t want to spend your time digging new memorial pennies. Notching out these pennies boost your success rate in finding more valuable treasures.

Our Verdict

The ACE 400 is lightweight and genuinely accurate to use when hunting for relics, coins, and jewelry. It also comes with a decent warranty, ensuring that your investment is safeguarded. The only major drawback we found in this model is that it has no ground balance. This makes it hard to use in high mineralization areas. However, we love its performance on other terrains including in wet sand.
